PGD or pre-implantation genetic diagnosis is a technique used during IVF to genetically test an embryo for a specific genetic abnormality. It requires the removal of one cell from the embryo. This is usually done at the 8-cell stage. Embryos that have a normal genetic screen result are then chosen to be transferred back into the womb.
